A Few Instances Where I Don’t Agree with the MAcc Program’s Approach

In general I feel that the MAcc program has prepared me well for the exam. The profs are good at what they do and I’ve learned more than I thought I was capable of in these short eight months. However, there are always areas of improvement and here are a few areas where I feel like MAcc has not optimized their CFE-prep process:

  • They insist on writing outlines by hand. For me personally, typing my outline directly into Word and Excel is a far more efficient approach.
  • They require a full memo heading (MEMO, to, from, subject, date, introductory sentence), which is not required by CFE markers according to Angela. Eliminating this would save you maybe a minute of extra writing time, and we all know that on the CFE, every minute counts.
  • Inconsistent marking. Sometimes the markers leave feedback that is plain unhelpful, and implementing their suggestions are a waste of time. Like one marker told me that all my Excel exhibits should have a descriptive title in addition to a purpose statement. To this day, I’m still titling all my exhibits boring old “Exhibit 1,” “Exhibit 2,” etc… and no other marker has brought it up since.
